We have a team member at work who is from Tonga and spent some time living in Hawaii. Before I left for my trip, I asked her of I could bring anything back for her. She asked for a special coffee that reminded her of her mother. So, of course I brought it back!

Today I found this amazing gift on my desk from her. It’s a Tapa… Handmade from Mulberry bark and then decorated with mulberry root coloring. Her grandmother made it and it was a part of her wedding tapestry! I was so taken back that I wasn’t sure I could accept it. She insisted and said that part of the tradition is to share the gift.

I intend on getting this framed and matted to hang. It’s beautiful! And the meaning behind it even more amazing.
